"Simple Way" Chili
When game day arrives, this thick, meaty and packed with flavour chili is the perfect thing to feed a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 250 ml or 1 cup All-Bran Original* cereal
  • 500 g or 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 large onion,
  • 2 medium green peppers,
  • 1 can (796 ml/ 28 oz.) tomatoes
  • 1 can (398 ml/ 14 oz.) tomato sauce
  • 20 ml or 4 tsp chili powder or to taste
  • 1 ml or 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 ml or 1/4 tsp salt
  • pinch or 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1 can (540 ml/ 19 oz.) red kidney beans,

Directions

1. In large, heavy saucepan, cook beef with onion and green pepper until meat is brown, stirring frequently. Drain off any fat.

2. Add tomatoes; break into chunks. Stir in tomato sauce, chili powder, garlic powder, salt and pepper until well mixed. Stir in beans and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered, about 40 minutes, stirring occasionally.

3. Stir in cereal and cook about 10 minutes longer, stirring frequently.

Whenever cooking with raw meats, ensure safe internal temperature has been reached.

VARIATION: for thicker chili, simply add a little extra cereal.
