Black Bean Burgers
Filled with garlic, cumin, and pecans, these Vegetarian-friendly burgers will be loved by all – even meat lovers

Ingredients

  • 500 ml or 2 cups All-Bran Flakes* cereal
  • 20 ml or 4 tsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 250 ml or 1 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (540 ml/19 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 5 ml or 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 ml or 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 50 ml or 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • 125 ml or 1/2 cup Salsa

Directions

1. In large non-stick skillet, over medium heat, heat 10 ml (2 tsp) oil. Cook onion and garlic until tender.

2. In food processor combine onion mixture, beans, cumin and salt; process until smooth.

3. Transfer to medium bowl. Stir on egg, crushed cereal and pecans. Shape into four patties about 1 cm (1/2-inch) thick.

4. In same skillet used to cook onion, over medium-high heat, heat remaining 10 mL (2 tsp) oil. Cook patties for 5 minutes or until lightly browned, turning once. Serve on toasted buns, top with salsa.
