1. In saucepan over medium heat, melt butter with sugar. Add dates; cook and stir 4-5 minutes, until mixture is thoroughly combined and thickened.
2. Remove from heat and stir in raisins, apricots, almonds and crushed cereal. Press firmly with back of spoon into buttered 2.5 L (9") square baking pan. Chill for 15 minutes.
3. In saucepan over low heat, melt chocolate. Spread evenly over cereal mixture. Sprinkle with additional sliced almonds. Chill until set. Store covered in refrigerator.
