Favourite Meatballs

Ingredients

  • 625 ml or 2 1/2 cups Kellogg's Corn Flakes* cereal
  • 625 g or 1 1/4 cup lean ground beef
  • 1/2 can (156ml/ 5 1/2 fl oz) tomato paste
  • 75 ml or 1/3 cup finely-chopped onion
  • 2 eggs
  • 5 ml or 1 tsp salt
  • pinch pepper
  • 1/2 can (156 ml/ 5 1/2 fl oz) tomato paste
  • 1 can (213 ml/ 7 1/2 fl oz) tomato sauce
  • 30 ml or 2 tbs green pickle relish
  • 50 ml or 1/4 cup finely-chopped onion
  • 50 ml or 1/4 cup lightly-packed brown sugar
  • 15 ml or 1 tbs Worcestershire sauce
  • 125 ml or 1/21/2 ml water
  • 1/2 can (156 ml/ 5 1/2 fl oz) tomato paste
  • 250 ml or 1 cup grape jelly
  • 175 ml or 3/4 cup chili sauce
  • 1 can (398 ml/ 14 fl oz) pineapple tidbits drained (optional)

Directions

MEATBALLS:

1. In large mixing bowl, thoroughly combine all ingredients. Shape into 2.5 cm (1") meatballs and place in single layer on foil-lined shallow baking pan.

2. Bake at 200°C (400°F) about 15 minutes or until browned. Drain if necessary. Combine meatballs with Spicy Tomato or Sweet and Sour Sauce.

Preparation Time: 30 minutes + 15 minutes baking

SAUCE DIRECTIONS, (Spicy Tomato or Sweet and Sour):

1. In large saucepan, combine sauce ingredients. Simmer over moderate heat about 20 minutes, stirring frequently. Add hot meatballs.

10 minutes + 20 minutes cooking

Yield:

675 ml (2 3/4 cups) Tomato Sauce

875 ml (3 1/2 cups) Sweet and Sour Sauce
