Ingredients

  • 250 ml or 1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 2 ml or 1/2 tsp salt
  • 75 ml or 1/3 cup shortening
  • 10 ml or 2 tsp finely chopped onions
  • 30-45 ml or 2-3 Tbsp cold water
  • 450 g or 1 lb ground round steak
  • 30 ml or 1 Tbsp shortening
  • 125 ml or 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1 L or 4 cups grated Cheddar cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 5 ml or 1 tsp dry mustard
  • 1 ml or 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 15 ml or 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 30 ml or 2 Tbsp finely chopped green pepper
  • 500 ml or 2 cups Special K* Original cereal
  • 6 tomato slices

Directions

1. Sift together flour and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add onions and water, stirring with fork only until combined. Shape into ball. Roll out on lightly floured surface to circle about 25 cm (10") in diameter. Fit loosely into 20 cm (8") pie pan. Fold edges under.

2. Brown meat in heated shortening in large fry pan, stirring frequently. Remove from heat. Stir in ketchup, cheese, egg, mustard, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, green pepper and cereal. Spread in pastry-lined pan.

3. Bake in moderate oven 200°C (400°F) about 20 minutes; remove pie from oven and place tomato slices on top. Return pie to oven and bake 5 minutes longer or until crust is browned. Cut into wedges; serve immediately.
